Duck Hunting Uruguay – A Variety of Species.

One will encounter many species of ducks on one’s Uruguay hunting trip to Uruguay—ducks such as Rosybilled Pochards, Brazilian teal, and White-faced Tree Ducks. The ducks are all found in abundance, and decoy readily into the smallest spreads of decoys, called “sinuelos” in Spanish.

While we are on the subject of Spanish, “Mas cartuchos por favor!” is all the Spanish that you need to know to hunt with Los Gauchos…it means literally, “More shells please!”, and that is exactly what you will be needing during your shoot—more and more shells.

Keep in mind that only lead shot is sold in Uruguay, so if you are used to shooting steel at home, you will need to stretch out that lead to get on target. But don’t worry, you will have plenty of practice, and behind every duck is another, and another, until your limit is reached.

Uruguay Ducks and Doves – The Ultimate Combo!

Our history of duck and dove hunting in Uruguay goes back to 2003, when we opened our first Uruguay duck hunting lodge at Estancia El Verde. It was there where hundreds of our best clients from Argentina pulled the trigger in Uruguay for the very first time, and now over a hundred hunters per month join us for some Uruguay hunting that can only be described as classic and unforgettable.

Uruguay Duck and Dove Hunting

There are no set hours for the shooting to end or begin, so as soon as one can see, it’s game on! Black silhouettes appear out of nowhere, and spiral in to the decoys from all directions. After the first shots are fired, the Labradors are in the water picking up dead birds and chasing down cripples. The motion in the water created by the dogs creates the appearance of a feeding frenzy, causing more ducks to rush for the decoys. Unlike in North America, there are no coyotes in Uruguay, so the presence of the dogs does not flare the birds! It is a sight to behold, and no one will ever believe you if you just tell them. They will have to see it for themselves to believe it—actually GO duck and duck hunting in Uruguay…and only then will the be able to relate to the experiences that you have.
