When is the Uruguay Duck Hunting Season ?

Duck hunting season in Uruguay begins May 1st. The waterfowl hunting season lasts until September in Uruguay. Rio Branco Lodge hosts duck hunters each week during the duck hunting season.

How Far are the Duck Blinds from the Rio Branco Lodge ?

About 6 minutes from the front door. So have another cup of coffee and you can be sitting in the blind within 10 minutes. The lodge sits on a private rice farm where ducks have the highest population. More than people.

Yes, you can bring up to 2 guns for your Uruguay duck hunt at Rio Branco. You must notify and pay the gun entrace license before you arrive in Uruguay. Paperwork is just one page and must be complete at least 20 days prior to your departure. DO NOT just arrive in Uruguay with your duck hunting shotgun.

What do I pack for a Duck Hunt at the Rio Branco Lodge ?

Come casual. The Uruguay Duck Hunting Club (Rio Branco Lodge) is a duck hunter's home away from home. The winters are mild and layers are best for the duck hunting.

Where do I fly for the Uruguay Duck Hunt ?
MVD - Montevideo International Airport (Uruguay)

Currently, American Airlines is the only carrier that has a direct flight to MVD. This flight departs out of MIA in the evening (11 PM) and arrives the next morning at 9 AM. Some can choose to start duck hunting on the day of arrival - we leave that up to you.

The Uruguay Duck Hunting Club or Rio Branco Lodge is located abut 4.5 hours from MVD - the arrival airport in Montevideo, Uruguay.

Our host will meet you at the airport and the group will transfer by van to Rio Branco. Most of the duck hunting takes place on the 2nd day - your day of arrival will be a travel day to the Duck Hunting Club.

What do I need to travel to Uruguay - and to duck hunt ?

Currently the only item you need is a current passport. Unlike Argentina, Uruguay DOES NOT charge an "entry visa fee" for North American citizens. Make sure your passport does not expire within 6 months of arriving - departing out of Uruguay.

If you hold a passport from a country other than the USA or Canada, please check with your embassy about visas or forms to travel to Uruguay.

What does a day at the Uruguay Duck Hunting Club include ?

Duck hunting in Uruguay (at Rio Branco) means DUCK HUNTING. So you will wake up to a warm breakfast and coffee - juice and then pack up and head out to the duck hunting blind. Rio Branco Lodge is prime in that the duck blinds are right on the property and by truck can be reached in about 8 minutes or less.

  2. Prime Duck Hunting - large variety of ducks and excellent shooting opportunities
  3. Back for nice meal at the lodge and little break to catch up on the news or emails
  4. Back to the duck blinds for an afternoon of duck hunting in Uruguay
  5. After good day of duck hunting - back to great home cooked meal at the lodge - with wine, appetizers, and dessert and good discussion with the host about Uruguay duck hunting
Can You Take the Ducks out of Uruguay for Mounting ?

No. Unfortunately, Uruguay does not allow birds to be taken out of the country. The airlines have their own set of rules - so there are 2 walls up for trying to depart out of Uruguay with birds. Do not try. It is NOT legal.

Can We book a Single Room ?

The Rio Branco Lodge is set up for double occupancy. You can request a single room and Los Gauchos will be more than happy to provide you a single room if it is available.
