Uruguay Duck Hunting
What to Bring for the Duck Hunting Trip

Hunting Tips for Uruguay Duck Hunting
Here is a list of recommendations that will make your duck hunt in Uruguay safe, successful and carefree.

  • Documents

  • A passport with at least 6 months remaining before expiring is required to enter Uruguay. No visa is needed for U. S. citizens. Citizens of other countries please check with your local embassy and or consulates.

A photocopy of your passport that shows your name, passport number, date issued and expiration date is always good to have with you at all times.

You may complete this information online LOS GAUCHOS CUSTOMER DATA FORM.

  • Shotguns

  • Uruguay is a country that makes traveling with your shotgun very efficient. The paperwork is processed before you arrive. The authorities will know of your arrival and check the gun serial numbers and issue the gun license. The fee is $100/gun.

Gun information MUST BE legible and accurate since the license is processed on site. Don’t forget the importance of trip protection insurance, Los Gauchos offers a Sportsman Trip Protection service that protects equipment such as guns.

Los Gauchos requires the paperwork at least 30 days before departure.
You may send the Uruguay Gun Form via fax (214) 231 2991 or email: susan@losgauchos.com

  • Shells

  • Shotgun shells can NOT be in baggage or enter Uruguay under any circumstance. One of the best things about duck hunting in Uruguay is that the shotgun shells are lead, we do not use steel shot. The payment of the shells you used during your duck hunt in Uruguay with Los Gauchos will be paid prior to your departure. You can pay with cash (USD).

  • Shotguns

  • 12 gauge, with more shot, is more effective on high ducks.

Screw-in chokes are recommended since they can provide flexibility.
Make sure your guns are in good working order before you leave USA ; A visit to your local gunsmith is recommended. Our gun(s) will be cleaned for you after each day's shoot.

Los Gauchos Outfitters has a variety of guns available to use for the Uruguay duck hunting.

  • Shooting clothes

  • Clothes for the Uruguay duck hunting should be light green, green or brown; camouflage is good for ducks and of course the use of waders is recommended. Light weight waders will work fine; the temperature during duck season in Uruguay does not typically go below 35 degrees.
Pack a sweater or jacket for the cool weather in the early morning. Los Gauchos Outfitters recommends you dress in layers and be prepared for possible rain, too.
Also be sure to include adequate head protection, gloves, etc.
